FIELDS MEDAL: Hugo Dumunil-Copin
The Fields Medals are the highest awards in mathematics and presented every four years to four recipients.
I was given the opportunity to translate the work for two of the four recipients into animation to be shown at the International Math Union ceremony that broadcast globally on July 5th, 2022.
.
For this winner, Hugo Dumunil-Copin, I visualized his work in percolation theory and magnetization to be more easily understood by a more general audience.
I was provided a section of the script and the name of the mathematician to research. From there I created and pitched storyboards, styleframes, and the implemented animation.
Animator and producer Kolin Pope provided final editing and animation assistance.

FIELDS MEDAL: JAMES MAYNARD

Schmidt Science Polymaths Award: Justin Solomon
Schmidt Sciences, founded by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, created a new series of awards to honour groundbreaking researchers in math and science today.
.
From my work for the Fields Medal awards recipients, I was approached to translate the research of one recipient of the new Schmidt Science Polymaths Awards, Justin Solomon, who works in computational geometry and accoustics.
I worked in tandem with the team at California Story Company, and from their cuts of the interview, I generated ideas on how to visualize and add motion to Justin's research, which would then be animated frame by frame on top of the piece.
.
After getting approval of my rough animations, I went in and animated every frame digitally, which resulted in hundreds of drawings.
